But personal mobility by cars provides freedom at a very high cost - for the environment, society and for the users. Even with e-cars, transport accounts for a quarter of the EU’s greenhouse gas emissions. Private cars and e-cars are the main contribution to road congestion, as well as congestion caused due to space taken up for parking. (E-)Bikes have propelled a massive shift in consumer choices but limitations regarding weather protection, comfort and stability make cars/e-cars the preferred mode of transport, sacrificing all advantages of cycling (low footprint, exercise, licence-free, no traffic exposure etc.) Such landscape gives a window of opportunity to Podbike AS to commercialise a new vehicle type to be positioned as a personal mobility alternative between ordinary (e-) bikes and small-sized cars/ e-cars. WHAT Our solution is a disruptive, 4-wheel, license-free, weatherproof, light, and robust electric assisted velomobile, seating one adult and a child and access to bike lanes. We are merging convenience and comfort of cars with the benefits and healthy lifestyle of cycling. Our vehicle is powered by innovative hybrid and chainless drivetrain that makes it a very reliable and robust vehicle with low maintenance costs. The width is 84 cm (4cm wider than a bike trailer) and the length is 236cm. Body in thermoplastic and frame of aluminum sandwich is strong and light and can be fully recycled. It is carefully designed for high manufacturability and a scalable solution that can be delivered directly to customers as a kit in a cost-efficient and “environmentally friendly package”, reducing demand on our resources and enabling scalability.
