Hi there. We are hiring a Javascript Developer to help evolve our product from an MVP in pilot to a fully-fledged and scalable product. We’re accepting applications for the next few weeks with an ideal start date in early September.
About Scoutbase
Scoutbase is a tool that helps shipping companies become safer, more productive and generally better workplaces.
In a nutshell, we do this by helping companies understand what makes daily work and life on a ship difficult for their crews.
The reason why this is valuable to maritime companies is that they suffer from a real lack of up to date, honest and actionable data on what’s difficult for their employees - which could even pose a risk to safety at sea!
The way we help those companies understand those challenges is by collecting real-time data directly from their seafarers.
Right now we are focused on the maritime industry and on making life at sea safer for the 1.6 million seafarers out there. But we are exploring opportunities for using our technology to tackle the same lack of data in other industries.
About the Job
Building technology solutions for the maritime industry is challenging, but we already have a good MVP running and in the hands of pilot users. Now we are looking for a talented developer to bring Scoutbase to the next level.
This means we are looking for someone to take on this challenge and help us evolve our tech - and our company - over time.
You will pitch in on our product roadmap and come with ideas for new features. You will make sure our product runs smooth and bug-free. You will work on a product that puts a premium on reliability and user experience.
This is a job where you will see the impact of your work. A few months from now the business should look better with you on board. A definite before and after.
This is a big responsibility and we are here to support you, cheer you on, and make it happen.
You can expect to grow in your strengths, versatility, and competence in this job. You can expect an inclusive, eager team who’ll support you in it, rise to challenges with you, and grow together.
You will be developing server code in Node.js, developing our database in PostgreSQL and expanding our GraphQL implementation that supports a single-page application.
Tech & Tools:
About You
You are creative. You are organized. You are experienced. You have done this before. You want to do it again. And you absolutely want to do it for us.
You are happy to work for a small startup, where things can change quickly and where priorities, roadmaps and plans might have to be adjusted to reflect new circumstances and opportunities.
You are excited about being in charge of your workstream and taking initiative.
You might have a Computer Science degree. You might not. That’s not the most important thing for us! We care about what you can do and how you do it, not about how you got here. A strong track record of conscientious, thoughtful work speaks volumes.
This is a remote job - if you want it to be. You’re free to work where you work best, anywhere in the world: home office, coworking space, coffee shops or of course in our HQ in Copenhagen, Denmark!
In order to make sure we all work well together in this setting it is important that you are good at managing your own time and projects reliably, meeting set deadlines and communicating with the rest of the team.
We do require that your normal workday has at least 4 hours overlap with the workday here in Copenhagen (UTC+1) without impinging on your personal/family life.
This means we accept remote applications from UTC-3, UTC-2, UTC-1, UTC +0, UTC+1, UTC+2, UTC+3, UTC+4, UTC+5
English is our company language - which means you need to be good at expressing yourself, both in written form and verbally.
Perks
For us having a life outside of work is important! We are really not about nudging people to do overtime or trapping them in endless meetings. Just the opposite.
We are proud of working with flexible working hours, ample vacation time, and a four-day working week (usually Fridays are off)!
Quality time to focus on work starts with quality time to think, exercise, cook, be with family and friends — time to yourself.
We are a small team and work in a very informal, collaborative and relaxed way - and keeping it that way is important to us.
Pay
We pay between 360.000 DKK (54.000 USD) and 660.000 DKK (100.000 USD) a year, matching to your experience.
Application Process
In order to make sure that we are a good match, we have a three-stage application process:
1. We will ask you do a short code challenge (you can submit this whenever you want)
2. If all looks good we will invite you to a skype interview
3. If you are a good match we will ask you to do a trial week - paid at the full rate of course
We know doing a code test sucks - especially before you have had a chat with us! But unfortunately, it’s the only way we can make sure we filter out people that are just not qualified early on - so that we can spend more time to get to know the applicant that is!
This job will require a lot of work and it is a lot of responsibility. Applying for a new job (and starting there of course) is always a bit of a leap of faith. So we appreciate all the consideration, time and effort that goes into making a decision and going through the application process.
We hope that this post is the start of a conversation with you. We look forward to hearing from you.
