WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
You would mainly work with supporting our developers and staff with their computers and development environments. Through your work, you will learn a lot about what keeps a growing organization running. You will also find an opportunity to build tools to help and support our teams with automation, Continuous Integration, chatbots, and other user-friendly interfaces.
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU
- Hungry to learn new things every day
- You are comfortable in a Linux shell
- You have some programming experience
- You have some general operating system knowledge - how things work
- Some network knowledge, Lan/WiFi
- You have good communication skills
- You are fluent in English
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM US
- Passion. We take pride in the craftsmanship of our work, and in sharing ideas and techniques with others. We love learning about new areas of tech and how they might be used to enhance people’s lives.
- Productivity. We take our ideas straight from the whiteboard to the codebase to the user. We experiment ruthlessly and fail fast in a blame-free culture.
- Perspective. We keep in mind the bigger picture, knowing how our work affects both the users and our fellow engineers; this helps us decide what’s really important. We each know how to lead, but also how to prop someone else up when they lead.
- Technical depth. We each have deep backend development experience, working with service based APIs; and working in Python production services. We’re all comfortable with Linux and shell. On top of this, we each have a special skill that’s different and unique to us.
- Growth mindset. We want to grow and learn from others, but we also want to teach and help others grow.
- Strong communication. We are all fluent (written and verbal) in English, and are comfortable explaining our technical work to someone who is non-technical, without dumbing it down. We regularly give tech talks and workshops and speak at meetups.
OUR STACK :)
By the way, our stack looks something like this and is still changing.
- iOS and Android apps providing our main user interface
- Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Services
- Backend in Go, or Python services running on Django, Falcon, or Flask, with Gunicorn and Nginx. All are hosted and load balanced in AWS
- Moving towards self-configuring services for the infrastructure they need/ the line between DevOps and developers is getting a bit blurry
- Orchestration with Ansible, Terraform, and Vagrant
- Docker
- MySQL and MongoDB via AWS
- Redis via AWS Elasticache
- Search via Sphinx
- Logging and metrics via ELK stack (ElasticSearch + Logstash + Kibana), Sentry, NewRelic, and Datadog
