Today, about 1% of the Danish population lives with Epilepsy, which corresponds to about 55,000 people. Epilepsy is thus one of the most frequent neurological disorders, resulting in significant impact on individual's quality of life which simultaneously leads to societal costs in terms of financial support and treatment. Due to the increased digitalization, citizens of the future will have a more central and active role in their own treatment and health. Researchers and practitioners in the field of design and health work more closely together to create welfare technologies that are intended to increase the quality of life of the citizen.
Encope is an assistive technology in an app with the aim to support the coping skills of an epileptic after a rehabilitation course at the Epilepsy Hospital, Filadelifa. Currently, the patients at Filadelfia are experiencing challenges regarding the use of the learned strategies and tools after the rehabilitation course, returning to their everyday environment. Encope helps to structure and visualize the individuals energy level, fatigue and daily activities. The user has the responsibility to reflect on his own condition, to avoid being overstimulated.
