Software Developer (Bloom)

Salary Competitive

Climate change is scary. There’s no better medicine to alleviate one’s anxiety than to wake up every morning knowing you’re doing your best to fix it. We’re looking for a team-player with a passion for JavaScript (full stack, frontend or backend) to join us in fighting the climate crisis. You are welcome at Tomorrow for who you are, no matter your background. We believe that it’s in our differences that we will find the power to solve one of the biggest challenges of our time.

About us

At Tomorrow, we’re building tech products that address the climate crisis. We’re a venture capital-backed company that was founded 4 years ago with the creation of electricityMap. You can read more about our mission here and in our guide to climate change.

Tomorrow is made up of two autonomous product teams, electricityMap, which already has had a meaningful impact on reducing carbon emissions thanks to our open-source approach and our partnerships with organisations like Google, and Bloom, which is a solution to help organisations measure, understand and reduce their carbon footprint. We want to make Bloom accessible to all companies, as we know that they have a key role to play in the climate fight.

What you’ll do

As part of the cross-functional Bloom team you will:

  • Play a key role in shaping the platform and the features we’re building

  • Design and develop web applications using TypeScript, React, node.js, GraphQL, Hasura, PostgreSQL

  • Work in an environment that supports your individual growth by providing you interesting challenges

  • Enjoy our 2 weekly meeting-free days where you work from where it suits you. We believe in deep work and strive to create an environment where everyone is empowered to do their best, most focused work

  • As a member in a small but growing team, you’ll have the opportunity to be in the driver’s seat, actively shaping your role as we grow together

Who are you

We’re looking for a purpose-driven and empathic developer who is comfortable with autonomy and tackling challenging problems that will help the world understand and reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.

Your personality, breadth of experience and your hunger to learn means more than years of developing software. Even if you do not meet all the below skills, do apply!

As the ideal future teammate, you would have

  • Experience with JavaScript (our stack is mostly based on JavaScript/TypeScript)

  • Thrive in cross-functional teams. We build the best solutions when we collaborate closely

  • Passion for delivering great user experiences

  • A desire and an ability to learn new technologies

  • Ability to innovate and partner with our design team to iterate on ideas

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

Bonus points for experience with

  • GraphQL

  • Data visualization

  • Automated testing

  • Designing database schemas

We can’t wait to hear from you!

Tomorrow is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, or age.

Working at
Tomorrow

We're a tech startup that has the mission of quantifying, and making widely accessible, the carbon impact of the daily choices we make. By making the carbon cost of things ubiquitous, we empower people to make climate conscious decisions. We started with electricity, and thus built the electricityMap (electricitymap.org) that shows, in real-time, carbon emissions of the electricity we consume. Now we are moving to tackle other verticals.  In our team we value honesty and respectful discourse and we strive to create an inclusive, empowering and inspiring work environment. Our experience with electricityMap has solidified our view that open source communities are vital driver for collective action and we are committed to sharing open data and knowledge. We believe in the strength of diverse work environments and welcome applications from people of different backgrounds, experiences, abilities and perspectives. If you are looking to have a meaningful impact and work in a highly collaborative and creative team, consider joining us.
