Senior Frontend Engineer with a flair for pixels wanted! Join us to build kick-ass web apps ๐Ÿ˜

Salary Competitive

tl;dr: You want to take part in changing the world as we know it by enabling the biggest but dustiest industry of them all to leave pen and paper in favour of jumping the technology-train they missed 20 years ago. You also have the experience it takes to build and design stellar interfaces and you're not afraid to make the jump and apply ;)

(Estimated reading time: ~5 minutes)

Hello, fellow frontenders!

Ever wondered who owns the massive building you pass by on your way to work? The beautiful ones along Sรธnder Boulevard? Or did you ever meet the owner of the apartment complex where you live or lived? ๐Ÿซ

These companies are very much hidden from the world we know, yet their influence can be found everywhere if you look for it. They operate in the biggest industry on planet earth, namely that of real estate. To us, it was a surprise to learn that they never really made the technology-train, and thus manage a small chunk of the planet's weight with pen and paper ๐Ÿ“

We've spent 4 years running a startup in the shades of these giants. On our journey we've fought to spend our waking time talking with, learning about, and exploring this world that is normally guarded by a tall barrier of entry. Our efforts have brought us to this crucial point in time, a moment we've been waiting for with excitement. It is time to ignite the knowledge we've collected over the years with technology ๐Ÿค“

The journey we have in front of us begins where years of battle-testing and relationship building ends. We are way past the idea stage and are already building software. Our aim is to leave the industry more productive than anyone in it could have ever wished for.

We are our own first customer, hence, we know the exact pain points we're building software for. Up next is the waiting list of companies that have signed up for a trial already. I have to be a bit stealth about it, and you cannot find what we're working on at officehub.dk, but I will happily let you in on the product vision over a virtual cup of coffee.

The gist is: We're manifesting all our learnings in a suite of web apps for real estate companies that are looking for tenants. The suite spans marketing, sales, and legal, and carries plenty of frontend challenges. Among other things the transformation of rather complex processes into simple intuitive experiences.

So! That was my rant from a high note. Let's take it down a nudge.

What you can expect from joining us ๐Ÿ”ฅ

  • Fun?: Not sure if we are a "fun environment". I read that in another job posting and wasn't quite sure what it actually means. Personally, I try to squeeze a joke in where-ever possible, and I'd happily laugh it off if you do the same ๐Ÿ˜† Although we breathe technology we should still hold on to being humans; we try to make room for low-key beers if Corona allows it, chats about nothing and everything outside work or teaming up to go see Tenet.

  • Grit: We have to fight for long-term victory every single day. The barrier of entry in our industry is tall for a reason, and most days we'll have to over-perform to get a "yes" - both you and I know that wow-experiences are not cheap. The benefit of the grit is that our victories are obvious and feel so damn good! If you need a pad on the back for showing up, this is not the place for you to work at... but when we do reach those milestones you'll see me margin around and padding all-day ๐Ÿ™Œ

  • Responsibility: We're a small tight-knit team in which each team member has to carry quite a bit on her/his shoulders to make the (front and back)ends meet (sorry, the last pun I promise, finally). As long as we're aligned on the result we want to achieve, you're very much responsible for making it happen. I'll be here to support you along the way, removing every blocker that's holding you back, whether that'll be discussions on what crossroads to take, technology-choice to make, or stakeholder to get in touch with. Most often we'll have customers that help us as a team prioritize but from that point on you'll pretty much set the frontend direction and implementation ๐ŸŽ

  • Learning: Could go here too, however, I feel that's always a bullet point away. From my experience, as a designer and developer, I haven't had a quarter in my career through which I didn't progress, learn something new, took a deep-dive in some technology, or what have you. I cannot promise you that we'll double your knowledge on a subject, that's on you. But I can promise you that taking an industry off pen and paper will keep feeding us with heavy challenges that we need to find beautiful solutions for.

Flipping the coin for a moment, here's what we expect from you โœ…

  • React: You know how to build solid web applications with React. Solid like? Well, we don't have a billion users, and won't optimize for a 100ms faster load speed. However, we do want our apps to be lean in size and easy to navigate. Crucial parts of our apps need to be covered by tests too, and a developer experience should be as smooth and productive as possible. I kind of take for granted that no one reading this forgot how to write HTML and CSS or are experts in building slow web applications... we're aiming to build something we'd enjoy using ourselves.

  • Flair for pushing pixels: You know how to push pixels around a canvas. Maybe you started with web design, got bid by the CSS bug but managed to overcome it, and here we are? It is crucial that you won't need a web designer to arrive at a piece of screen estate that looks aesthetically pleasing. Showing off at Github, Dribbble, or similar will not go unnoticed!

  • Understanding a target audience: You know that the look of a button is not nearly as important as the ability for the user to find and understand it. We're not here to create fancy looking landing pages, we're here to build intuitive interfaces. Interfaces that our target audience finds easy to use and likes to look at - an audience that is far from as tech-savvy as yourself, an audience we'll regularly sit down with to get feedback and learn from.

  • Other technologies and honesty: You have touched upon, or understand the concepts of, Next.js, TypeScript, and GraphQL. We're all learners, and we'll buy you all the books you need, so these are not requirements per se. But it would be cool if you know enough about these technologies to get the gist of our frontend stack. You're welcome to wing it if we meet at the interviews, however, I always prefer honesty no matter what the consequence might be - that way we can plan accordingly and have a chat about what's next.

Practically, we have a few codebases you'll be working on ๐ŸŽณ

  • Building and designing parts of our marketplace to meet the expectations of users today: This is not some old stack we'll have to fix. We've started from scratch and are implementing a lot of learnings from our current 4-year-old marketplace. This piece of product is where we show off and thus needs attention to detail, a good mobile experience, animations, etc.

  • Re-building and designing parts of our sales product for optimal user experience: This part of our suite has to be more functional, carry a greater amount of data-heavy views, and the challenge here is to simplify what otherwise becomes a complex monster. I imagine you'll get a chance to master the art of removing stuff without anyone noticing, ninja style ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต

  • Launch a completely new product, which real estate has never seen before: For this endeavor, we'll be on unattended grounds, and will most likely be forced to experiment, test, and fail in order to find the exact mix of ingredients for success. Although that is a journey in itself, I am already imagining the day on which we push the red button with one hand while cheering in champagne with the other!

Quite a rant, I know. If you made it this far, and if you check off most of what you've read, I really want to hear from you, sooner rather than later. All you need to apply is found below.

CTO, OfficeHub

A few other arguments for your function:

  • We're a funded startup founded in 2016. Not sure if "startup" is the right label anymore but we'll take it for the sake of kool-aid ๐Ÿน

  • We're based out of Copenhagen near Gammelstrand metro station.

  • Currently, we're a team of 13 hard-working and loud-laughing people.

  • We'll be 3 developers in Copenhagen and 3 developers outside Denmark.

  • Remote is fine with us but do expect sessions at the office now and then.

  • OfficeHub is already live in Denmark and Ireland ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช

  • We'll provide equipment, lunch, and a fridge full of fuel ๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿ•๐Ÿฅค

  • You can more or less choose your own title. CEO is taken though.

  • We tend to speak English first and Danish second.

  • We peer-review each other's code, that way I learn something as well ๐Ÿ˜
