As many other Start-ups, SKAARHOJ also started more or less by coincident, when Kasper Skårhøj in his profession as a Video Producer at DTU saw a need for a smaller and cheaper broadcast control unit instead of the solution available from the company Blackmagic Design. After 2 years he achieved what he had started out to develop, and in 2013 he incorporated SKAARHOJ, who ever since has received very possitive feed-back from the market and the potential of their present assortment.

Responsibility

Your primary responsibility is to participate in the development of our central software components (known as “Device Cores”) which is the main part of our control panels and which links these panels to external hardware devices from multiple suppliers in the Broadcast Business. This includes but is not limited to cameras, video switches, routers etc.

These units are usually operated by relatively simple protocols distributed over Ethernet or serial.

Your tasks

Your daily tasks can be described as:

• 2/3 of your time will be used in multiple projects working on new products/device cores or new features to our existing products/device cores.
• The remaining time will be used on a number of ad hoc tasks such as customer specific software adaptation, bug fixing etc.  

Many of the tasks will initially be done in close cooperation with our other Software Developer in order for you to support each other and help each other where required.

Your professional profile

You do not need to have professional experience from the broadcast hardware business, but it is required that you can document experience with machine control and protocols and that you have ambitions of making the best hardware control units in the market.

We expect that you have the following background:

• A solid documented experience with C++ programming
• Experience with software architecture
• Understanding of different Ethernet protocols, TCP, UDP, http etc.
• Knowledge of XML, JSON, Python, PHP, Raspberry Pi or SQL is an advantage, since we work with these tools from time to time
• Experience with the software aspect of digital electronics will also be a great advantage
• We hope that you are widely connected with user groups all over the world and that you are updated on new trends and developments
• We hope that you have a natural curiosity about broadcast- and/or video production

• That you have the desire and skills for working on the long perspectives and that you understand the importance of this attitude
• That you are flexible and relatively easy can adapt to a busy and hectic environment, where urgent and unpredictable tasks will appear 
• We expect that you work independently and take responsibility, that you can plan your time and resources in an optimal way based on the priorities given by your manager
• We expect that you proactively participate in the design and development of our next generation of Device Cores, based on the analysis you make on the behavior when using our panels.
