Our PHP/Laravel backend is a core system that serves our clients and our data pipelines. It’s no ordinary backend: our unique user’s needs push us to develop backend architectures that go far beyond the ordinary PHP/MySQL stack. We regularly resort to encryption architectures, queuing systems, push technologies, Lambda-architectures, hybrid SQL/NoSQL data-lakes and distributed processing to get the job done. 

This position is in the Hypefactors Engineering team and you’ll be reporting directly to the web team lead. Our engineering team is technically cross-functional, with expertise in digital design, embedded systems, backend, frontend, mobile, data engineering and data sciences. We function in a DevOps manner and strive to improve ourselves through process-improvement, adopting and devising best-practices.

Key Responsibilities

As an engineer, you’ll participate in the full life-cycle of our tech platform. This means that you’ll be expected to

• Plan the rollout for new product features
• Address inefficiencies and build for scale
• Analyze, architect, develop, and maintain PHP enterprise software using Laravel 
• Coordinate with fellow-engineers its integration with the data-lakes, frontend and mobile apps

Along the way, you can take up additional responsibilities, such as

• Mentor graduates and (junior) engineers
• Manage key product features
• Technology roadmap planning

Basic Qualifications

• Experience with object-oriented PHP and a solid understanding of object-oriented concepts and abstractions
• Fluency with the Laravel framework
• Comfortable building and interacting with SQL and/or NoSQL databases
• Exposure to memory-based caching mechanisms and approaches (e.g. Redis, Couchbase)
• Proficiency building services and working with third-party APIs (REST, GraphQL, RPC,...)
• Experience working in a Test Driven Development (TDD) manner
• Experience working in Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) environments

Desirable

• Familiarity with ElasticSearch
• Distributed computing
• Knowledge of AWS / EC2 / S3 / Cloud computing solutions
• Experience with Job Queue Systems (SQS, RabbitMQ, Iron.io,...)
• MSc in computer science or other engineering/sciences
