To support increasing demand and growth, we are looking for a skilled and energetic Jr. Data Scientist to join our team in Helsinki. 

At GetJenny, we use plenty of Open Source projects –from Spark and Scala to Python to, obviously, Linux. We are therefore also committed to give back as much as possible to the community. Our Scala conversation engine, *chat, a is published on GitHub under MIT licence (https://github.com/GetJenny/starchat).

One of the main responsibilities of a junior data scientists would be to improve our products, and among the required skills to be able to use Git. Therefore as a test of skills and desire, we ask any candidate to:

• Locally install *chat,
• Implement a conversation flow,
• Implement a simple front end (using any library/GUI of your choice, from a terminal to Telegram) and
• Propose some improvements to *chat and make a pull request

In doing so, you acknowledge that any software produced in the process will be yours, but must be released under the same licence of *chat (MIT).

Responsibilities:

• Contribute to our Artificial Intelligence / Natural Language Processing products
• Customise existing products for customers

Required Skills:

• Being able to develop without problem in a language used in scientific computing (Python, Scala, C++, Java etc)
• Mastering at least one tool for crunching data (Pandas, R, Incanter... whatever!)
• Being able to apply and explain a few machine learning algorithms
• Being able to read (and understand!) scientific publications 
• Having experience with Version Control Systems, ideally Git

• Excellence in scientific computing
