They invest in strategically important knowledge areas that involve programs in health, transportation and environment, services & ICT, and production & work life. FFI is under Vinnova and specializes in research & innovation within transportation and safety. 

Experience

Vinnova was founded in January 2001 as Sweden’s innovation agency. They manage programs for strengthening Sweden’s innovativeness. The programs have different specialisms and cover several areas of society and industries. They promote sustainable growth by improving the conditions for innovation and by funding needs-driven research. Every year Vinnova invests about SEK 2.7 billion in various initiatives. Vinnova develops a number of programs and activities within strategic areas. 

How much do they invest?

Vinnova supports the early development of high risk in the company. The innovation should be a novelty in the industry with international potential. Vinnova also assists Swedish companies to find and apply for funding within the EU. Through different programs, you can apply for different funding. They can, for example, provide financial support if you join an incubator, if you want to start an innovation project in your business or making business cooperation with another EU-country.

For small to medium sized businesses these are the valid terms: Level one: full financing up to SEK 500 000. Companies that have been in operation for up to five years can apply for 100 percent financing of a project. The maximum amount is SEK 500 000. Level two: 25-50-percent financing for up to SEK 5 million. If the project needs more funding than SEK 500 000, or about the company that is looking for has been around for more than five years, we can finance the project with up to 50 percent. The maximum searchable amount is SEK 5 million.

How do they work?

Small and medium businesses can find programs here. All the programs have a deadline. Because it is time-consuming to fill out the application they recommend to start early.
